Short Answer

If you become infected with Ebola while traveling, Medical Evacuation benefits may be available.

More Detail

Travel insurance providers still consider contracting Ebola an "unforeseen" event, this means benefits like Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation are available to travelers who purchase a policy before becoming infected.

The transportation of an Ebola patient is dependent on the availability of special isolation equipment, personnel, and permits. Additionally, a patient must be stable in order to be transported. Therefore, the Medical Evacuation of an Ebola patient is not guaranteed.

In the event of a Medical Evacuation, the travel insurance provider will need to coordinate benefits with the CDC, the receiving hospital, the Department of State, US Customers and the air medical transport provider and ground transportation providers. Squaremouth recommends contacting your travel insurance provider's 24/7 emergency assistant services immediately.

Some policies include specific limitations or exclusions related to Ebola.
