Loss or Delay

Will I be covered if my car breaks down on the way to my destination and I lose a day at my resort?

Short Answer

Unfortunately, travel insurance does not provide coverage if your car breaks down causing you to miss a day of your trip. This is not considered a covered reason under the Trip Interruption benefit.

More Detail

In order for you  to be covered by the Trip Interruption benefit, your trip must be impacted by one of the policy’s covered reasons. Generally, a car breaking down is not considered a covered reason.

Typically, covered reasons to cancel or interrupt a trip relating to transportation apply to common carriers. A common carrier is any ticketed, public form of transportation, such as a train, airline, or cruise line. However, there are some policies that will offer coverage if you are delayed while en route to your departure due to a documented traffic accident.

This information can vary based on the travel insurance policy. Please review the policy certificate to verify coverage.
