What is 'nearest adequate medical facility'?
“Nearest adequate medical facility” refers to the closest medical facility that is capable of treating whatever illness or injury you have sustained. On standard travel insurance policies, this is where you will be transported during a Medical Evacuation.
In the event of an unforeseen illness or injury, Medical Evacuation will provide transportation to a nearby hospital. If you cannot receive the necessary treatment at that location, you will be transported to another hospital that can accommodate you, or back to your home country.
The majority of travel insurance policies only offer Medical Evacuation to the nearest adequate medical facility. You will only be transported back to your home country if it is considered medically necessary by you, your attending physician, and the emergency assistance provider.
