Evacuation

Do I choose when and where I am Medically Evacuated?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

Most Medical Evacuation policies do not allow you to choose when and where you are evacuated, however, some policies that cover Medical Evacuation only will provide coverage for transportation to a hospital of your choice.

More Detail

Medical Evacuation is designed to transport you to the nearest adequate medical facility. If deemed medically necessary by the treating physician and approved by your insurance provider, Medical Evacuation can also cover transportation home.

Most travel insurance policies do not offer transportation to your hospital of choice under their Medical Evacuation benefit. The only products offering Hospital of Choice for Medical Evacuation are Air Ambulance Card and Medjet Assist. These are evacuation only products that offer no other coverage. While these policies include some restrictions, if you are hospitalized as an inpatient, you can decide to be evacuated to a hospital of your choosing.

This information can vary based on the travel insurance policy. Please review the policy certificate to verify coverage.
