Loss or Delay

What is covered by the Missed Connection benefit?

Last Updated:

Short Answer

Missed Connection provides reimbursement for the additional costs for you to “catch up” to your trip in the event of a missed departure. This benefit can also provide coverage for meals and accommodations during your delay, and for unused trip costs due to your missed connection, depending on the policy.

More Detail

In order for you to be covered by the Missed Connection benefit, you must experience a covered common carrier delay for the specified amount of time listed on the policy, typically 3, 6, or 12 hours. Depending on the policy, examples of a covered common carrier delay could be a delay due to inclement weather, mechanical failure, or any delay.

Many policies provide reimbursement for the additional costs for you to “catch up” to your trip, however, some policies will only cover the transportation costs to catch up to a cruise or tour if you miss the cruise or tour departure due to a covered delay. If the policy’s coverage is limited to cruise and/or tours only, the Policy Detail, found on the Quote Results page, will state “Cruise only” or “Cruise and tour only.”
